Having trouble picking out the right SUV? Take a look at the 2021 BMW X5 and 2021 Volvo XC90 and how they compare in three key areas!

Few luxury midsize SUVs have what the BMW X5 does under its hood. The base engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit that produces 335 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. There are also several other engines to pick from, with the top-of-the-line being a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that pumps out 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.

The base Volvo XC90 comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that offers just 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. And the best it can do is 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque from its top engine.

There is no shortage of comfort features in the BMW X5. The very supportive seats come standard with synthetic leather upholstery. You will also get 16-way power-adjustable front sport seats that are heated, driver’s seat memory settings, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Volvo XC90 does come with synthetic leather seats, but upgrades are required to get anything extra.

The BMW X5 is loaded with tech features. In addition to an infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen are:

  • Push-button start
  • 10-speaker stereo
  • Voice recognition
  • Wireless Android Auto™
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay™
  • Five USB ports
  • Navigation
  • Bluetooth®
  • HD and satellite radio
  • Proximity keyless entry

The Volvo XC90 comes with some of the same tech amenities, but there are only two USB ports. Plus, the touchscreen is much smaller, as it’s only nine inches.
