If you drive a BMW plug-in hybrid vehicle, you have to ensure it gets proper maintenance. Fortunately, this isn’t difficult, as a plug-in hybrid car requires much of the same service as one that is powered by gas.
Oil Changes
Your car’s motor will most likely be just fine without needing anything from you. Your engine, on the other hand, always has to have clean and fresh oil flowing through it. This is why – regardless of how many miles you routinely drive – it should be changed about every six months. In addition to getting optimal engine performance, this offers an added bonus: even better gas mileage.
Brake Checks
Every time you step on the brakes, you put a little bit of strain on your braking system. Over time, things like pads and shoes wear down and will eventually need to be replaced. Having your brakes checked at least on a yearly basis will let you be proactive about getting new parts.
Battery Tests
Your plug-in hybrid vehicle has two batteries, and the one that helps power the car you really don’t need to worry about. It’s the one used to start the car that needs to be tested regularly. These batteries have a relatively short lifespan – about three to five years – so gauging its health annually is a smart idea.
Tire Rotations
In order to give you their best performance and improve your safety, tires need to be rotated. This should be done about every six months. And because this helps them wear down more evenly, they will last a lot longer.
