Do you have your eye on the new BMW X5? In addition to the excellent BMW X5 iDrive 8 infotainment system, this SUV is incredibly fun to drive.
Tremendous Power
The base BMW X5 is the BMW X5 40i, and it comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that generates 335 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. Three other engines are available:
- 45e: Turbocharged 3.0-liter engine and electric motor that combine to put out 389 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque
- M50i: Twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque
- X5M: Twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque
Every engine is paired with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive (sDrive) is standard, while all-wheel drive (xDrive) is available.
Great Handling
The BMW X5 has supreme agility, especially for a bigger SUV. And, thanks to its standard adaptive suspension, you can be sure that you will always get a smooth and comfortable ride.
Terrific Gas Mileage
The base BMW X5 with sDrive has fantastic gas mileage for its class: 21 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. Other configurations offer varying efficiency.
- xDrive40i: 21/25 city/highway MPG
- xDrive45e: 19/22 city/highway MPG, 50 MPGe combined
- M50i: 16/22 city/highway MPG
- M: 13/18 city/highway MPG
Impressive Driving Range and Charging Time
If you opt for the BMX X5 45e, a plug-in hybrid configuration, you may never need to buy gas, as a full charge will enable you to drive up to 30 miles. Using a 240-volt outlet, you can get the battery completely charged in four to five hours.
