A new BMW EV took top prize at the recent World Car Awards in New York: the BMW iX3. Not only was it named the World Electric Vehicle of the Year, but it was also named the 2026 World Car of the Year after a rigorous judging period. And it’s easy to see why this model received these accolades when you test-drive it at BMW of Fort Washington.
About The Awards
Every year, the World Car Awards celebrates the top models across the globe and honors the best of the best in seven major categories. In 2026, 98 judges representing 33 countries carefully considered 58 major vehicles available in multiple territories. Winners were announced at the New York International Auto Show this past spring.
An Award-Winning EV
For 2026, the BMW iX3 was nominated as one of the three finalists from the shortlist of 58 vehicles. It beat out the Hyundai Palisade and Nissan LEAF® in consideration for their top prize, the World Car of the Year. In the process, it was also honored with the World Electric Vehicle award for its overall excellence in performance and design.
Electric Power
Judges were impressed with the innovative power and range possible in the BMW iX3. This vehicle can achieve up to 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque; it’s rated for a top speed of 130 MPH. Depending on your trim, you can drive for up to 434 miles* before you need to recharge.
